Never ran track in high school but developed into an outstanding intercollegiate track and cross country runner for EMU... Earned NCAA All-American honors in 1952 and 1953... Compete on EMU cross country teams that won the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) titles in 1952, 1953 and 1954... Won individual IIAC cross country titles in both 1952 and 1953 and finished second in 1954... Served as captain of the 1954 Eastern team that won the Michigan AAU, IIAC and national AAU cross country championships and he was second or third in all three events... Finished 18th out of 100 runners at the 1954 National Cross Country Championships and was 17th out of 101 starters at the 1953 championships... From 1952-54 ran in 15 dual cross country meets and won 14 and finished second in the other race... Won the 1954 IIAC two-mile track titles in a record-breaking performances... Elected to Sigma Delta Psi, and national athletic honorary fraternity... Serves as secretary of the Varsity Club and Physical Education Club... Served one term as the president of the E-Letterwinners Club.
