An outstanding catcher on the EMU baseball team... Earned three letters and served as captain of the 1950 team... Went on to play four seasons of professional baseball in the minor leagues with the Chicago White Sox... Worked as an intercollegiate umpire for 25 years... Umpired the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles... Also umpired the NCAA Regional tournament 21 times and the NCAA College World Series a total of seven times... Went on to tour and teach umpiring techniques in Australia, China, Japan, and Korea in 1980 and 1982... Umpired the World Games in 1980 and 1984 and the Pan American Games in 1979... Worked as an umpire in Taiwan in 1980... Worked in the Michigan State University athletics department from 1990 until his death in 2001.
